Cartoons in Galway

In Galway, it was raining sideways when I stepped off the train from
Dublin. After a nap at the guest house, I headed to Galway Town Hall, the
main venue for the Cuirt Festival, to pick up my tickets and to attend the exhibit of cartoons
by Tom Mathews and Joe Boske which is one of the art shows accompanying
this year’s Cuirt. Both men are painters and cartoonists and each of
them is a great wit. Mathews’ work would be familiar to readers of The Irish Times
and other Irish newspapers, Boske probably for his album covers for De Danann,
Clannad and Mary Loughlan. Tomorrow is the launch and the beginning of the readings.
